Anger as UK cuts aid to South Africa

South Africa is reportedly furious with the UK for ending its agreement to send cash there from 2015 onwards.

The news that one of the world’s richest countries, Britain, is cutting public health and development help to one of its longstanding aid recipients, South Africa, was not well received in Pretoria.

South Africa receives a relatively small amount of international aid from the UK compared to other countries, but the British government says it no longer needs the $29m, since it has effectively become an economic powerhouse.
