Hundreds of police have been deployed in Berlin to oversee the removal of a section of what remains of the Berlin Wall.

A luxury apartment complex will be built in its place amid opposition from thousands of residents.

Opponetnts of construction say they are planning a demonstration in front of City Hall on Thursday.

Al Jazeera's Nick Spicer reports from Berlin.
