Russia mulls nuclear weapons to blast meteors

Scientists propose using nuclear power to defend Earth from meteors, after space rock crashed last month.

Russian scientists have proposed a plan to use nuclear weapons to defend the Earth from falling meteorites.

The idea was prompted by a space rock shattering over the Ural Mountains last month causing millions of dollars in damage.

Al Jazeera's Robin Forestier-Walker reports from Moscow.
