The seven-year-old British girl who might be the only witness to a multiple murder in the French Alps is now conscious and has spoken briefly to police.

Zainab al-Hilli was shot and beaten in the attack that left most of her family dead.

Police say a single weapon was used.

Al Jazeera’s Peter Sharp reports from Surrey, England.
