As the 2012 Games near the halfway point, crowds in the British capital are well and truly imbued with Olympic spirit.

As the Olympics near their halfway point, track and field athletes got their first run out in London for qualifying heats and some final events.

Tomas Mayefski of Poland has taken the first gold medal, in the shot put.

Not only have the athletes been treating the fans to some record-breaking action, but the unusually large crowds have been treating the athletes to a great atmosphere.
