An Australian radio presenter has been sacked after asking Prime Minister Julia Gillard about her partner's sexuality.

He suggested Tim Mathieson might be gay because he is a hairdresser.

It is the latest in a string of incidents that Gillard has said illustrates sexist attitudes and disrespect for the prime minister’s office being held by a woman.

Al Jazeera's Andrew Thomas reports from Sydney.
