2013 one of the hottest years on record

US agency finds 2013 among the hottest years on record, with the trend evident on land and in oceans.

    While parts of North America are in the middle of a deep freeze, there is new evidence that overall temperatures on the planet continue to rise.

    Data from the US National Ocean and Atmospheric Agency has concluded that 2013 tied with 2003 as the fourth warmest year on Earth since records began in 1880.
