Over the past few decades, the US has been increasingly dependent on imports to meet its growing hunger for energy. But technological advancements have now led to a huge surge in domestic output - and the US is now the world's largest natural-gas producer.

The impact of this development is being felt across the globe. Al Jazeera's Tom Ackerman reports from Texas.
