Just down the road from the political gathering a tent camp shelters some 250 homeless Americans.

All eyes are on the US state of Florida this week as the Republican National Convention continues.

But just down the road from the politicians, journalists and activists in one of the poorest areas in the state have seen a surge of people in need for homeless shelters and charities.

Al Jazeera's Andy Gallacher reports.
