Days after taking office five years ago, Felipe Calderon, the Mexican president, began Mexico's war on drugs.

Since then, Mexican police have captured and arrested many of the nation's most notorious crime bosses, but with 50,000 deaths, some are wondering how effective Calderon's war has been.

With one year left in his term, a growing financial toll for businesses, increasing civilian deaths, accusations of human rights abuses by Mexican forces, and Calderon's inability to deliver on his moniker of the "jobs president" have led many to the streets in protest.
