Liberia’s Charles Taylor to face sentencing

Families of those murdered and raped by rebels backed by the convicted ex-warlord say he should be jailed for life.

An international court is due to deliver its sentence on former Liberian President Charles Taylor, who was convicted of war crimes for his role in the Sierra Leone civil war.

The prosecution is arguing that he should serve 80 years in prison, while the defence says the charges were politically motivated.

Meanwhile, the families of people murdered, raped or recruited as child soldiers by rebels backed by Taylor say he should be sentenced to life.
