Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe opens the annual conference of his ZANU-PF party on Thursday with the veteran leader seeking to extend his more than three-decade dominance of the country.

Mugabe is expected to push for early elections, confident he can defeat his current coalition partner, Morgan Tsvangirai, the prime minister who came to power in 2009 as part of a power-sharing deal.

But Mugabe’s party, and his country, remain deeply divided.
