Former world heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson was indicted on drug charges and driving under the influence in Arizona on Friday.
Barnett Lotstein, spokesman for the Maricopa County Attorney's office, said the 40-year-old Tyson could face seven and a half years in jail if convicted on all four counts.
The charges include possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia and two misdemeanour counts of driving under the influence of drugs.
Lotstein said Tyson's previous run-ins with the law would make him ineligible for the state's drug-treatment programme, meaning prosecutors will seek prison time for the former champion.
"The law exempts those individuals (from the drug-treatment programme) who have been previously convicted for prior serious offences," Lotstein said on Friday.
Tyson, 40, was arrested for driving under the influence and possession of drugs December 29 in Scottsdale, Arizona, after nearly crashing his car into a police car as he left a bar.
Police found three bags of cocaine in the former boxer's car during a roadside test.
The New York born Tyson was convicted in Indiana of rape 14 years ago he also pleaded no contest to assault charges in 1999.
