Cousin’s
A day in the life of a supermarket in one of the most run down parts of Philadelphia.
Filmmaker: Cameron Hickey
Cousin’s is the only supermarket in Philadelphia with a halal butcher.
The store is owned by an extended family of second and third generation Palestinian Americans who feel strongly about catering to the needs of their diverse clientele.
Depicting a day at this neighbourhood supermarket – the busiest day of the year, the day before Thanksgiving – the film touches on race relations, food politics and global politics.
Cousin’s aired from Thursday, November 26, 2009.
