WATCH PART TWO
Filmmaker: John Goheen
The debate about climate change, like global weather patterns, has been heating up in the past decades.
But the inhabitants of a tiny Alaskan fishing community called Shishmaref on the Bering Strait don't need any more proof.
Their town and way of life has been swept away by the effects of climate change.
Politicians have been reluctant to do anything about global warming for fear of damaging economies.
But even George W. Bush admitted there is a problem and promised to do something about it.
But whatever initiatives politicians come up with, it will come too late for the people of Shishmaref.
Each year they lose more than 3 meters of ground to the approaching sea. But what can they do to stop the rising tides?
John Goheen went to see if these people would be the first eco-refugees.
