It has been almost 30 years since Jimmy Carter, the former US president, left office, and despite having only served one term, he left a strong legacy - promoting peace and civil rights.
Never one to shy from unpopular choices, Carter mediated the Camp David Accords, negotiated the return of the Panama Canal, and normalised relations with China.
His brief term in office saw other major events like the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan and the Iranian hostage crisis.
On Thursday's Riz Khan, we speak to the former president Jimmy Carter, on his latest book White House Diary which gives a rare and intimate look at his personal diary during his term as president of the United States.
This episode of Riz Khan aired from Thursday, October 28, 2010.
