Watch part two

The fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 reunited a people long divided by ideology and marked the first major break in the Iron Curtain.

It was not long after that the former Soviet Bloc countries moved toward democracy and capitalism and the Soviet Union was disbanded.

On the 20th anniversary of the opening of the Berlin Wall and the fall of Communism in Europe.

We ask: How is the legacy of the Cold War shaping the alliances of today and are the people of Eastern Europe better off under capitalism?

Joining the show is Nina L. Khrushcheva, the granddaughter of former Soviet premier Nikita Khrushchev and the author of Imagining Nabokov: Russia Between Art and Politics.

Also joining the programme is Peter Schneider, a German novelist and author of The Wall Jumper.

This episode of the Riz Khan Show can be seen live from Monday, November 9, 2009 at 2030GMT with repeats on Tuesday 0030GMT, 0530GMT and 1130GMT.
