Watch part two

In the early hours of Sunday, Manuel Zelaya, the president of Honduras, was flown into exile in Costa Rica in a military plane.

On the day of his arrest, he defied the Supreme Court and called a referendum on constitutional change that opponents worried would lead to a Venezuela-style socialist state.

On Tuesday, the UN General Assembly demanded Zelaya's immediate restoration.

Things escalated further as the leaders of Argentina and Ecuador and the head of the Organisation of American States signed on to accompany the ousted president on a flight to Honduras later this week. The interim government has said Zelaya will be arrested if he returns.

On the streets of Honduras security forces used tear gas and water cannons against Zelaya's supporters, injuring and arresting dozens.

On Wednesday, Riz speaks to Álvaro Vargas Llosa, a political commentator and the director of the Center on Global Prosperity at the Independent Institute, and Jose Argueta, who has conducted several studies on the Honduran political system, democratisation and governance, about where the country is heading.

This episode of the Riz Khan show aired from Wednesday, July 01, 2009.
