They cite various reasons for leaving: political and military turmoil, the search for better opportunities, and discrimination.
As Pope Benedict XVI makes his first trip to the Holy Land, seeking to mend relations with Jews and Muslims, and hoping to give support to Arab Christians, we will take a look at the conditions of Christians in the Middle East.
