Will Turkey agree that the killing of one million Armenians constituted genocide?
Last Modified: 09 Apr 2009 14:00 GMT

Watch part two

Turkey and Armenia are attempting to pave the way for an historic agreement aimed at reopening their borders and restoring relations.

But will the agreement be held up over a dispute concerning Armenian claims that the death of more than one million Armenians during Ottoman rule in 1915 constituted genocide?

On Today's Riz Khan show we ask if the deaths of 1.5 million Armenians under Turkish rule were the first instance of genocide in the Twentieth century and if so, what would it take for these two countries to overcome this tragedy?

Joining us on the show are Cengiz Aktar, a professor at Istanbul's Galatasaray University and leader of the apology movement, Etyen Mahcupyan, a Turkish-Armenian journalist and writer and editor of Armenian weekly Agos, and Yalm Eralp a former diplomat and adviser to former Turkish prime ministers Yilmaz and Ciller.

This episode of the Riz Khan show aired from Wednesday, April 8, 2009.
