Ron Paul speaks at a rally attended by his supporters in St Paul, Minnesota, during the US election campaign
Congressman Ron Paul campaigned in the run-up to the US presidential election on the idea of a modern-day American Revolution.

His outspoken adherence to libertarian values has made him a respected ideological leader.
But in the end, Paul didn't have a chance of winning the Republican Party nomination to stand against Democratic candidate and eventual victor Democrat Barack Obama.
