Jose is one of two on-board mechanics working on a DC3 owned by Sadelca airline that forms part of Colombia's rural air bus service plying remote routes transporting passengers and supplies.

He is trying to plug an oil leak on Flight 1149. He was on board the same plane when it crash landed in a paddy field almost 18 months earlier following an engine problem.
