Watch part two

Filmmakers Richard Rowley and Kouross Esmaeli follow a conservative and reformist candidate on the campaign trail in a contested local race during the crucial March 14 elections.

His close-up coverage follows the candidates behind the scenes, attends rallies and campaign events and talks to voters.

The campaign brings to the surface the political tensions and contradictions within Iranian society - where the demand for more democratic participation is countered by the call for unity against a foreign threat.

This episode of People & Power aired from Wednesday, April 23, 2008.
