Voice of the People is a privately owned radio station and online platform that provides critical reporting from afar. Repeatedly denied an official broadcast licence, its team of journalists sends its reports to Radio Netherlands. They are broadcast back into Zimbabwe via a transmitter in Madagascar.
Other outlets based abroad to circumvent restrictive media laws include Nehanda Radio and TV online. It operates in the UK and is headed by exiled journalist Lance Guma. Guma used to be with Radio SW, which was also based in Britain but closed in 2014 because of what its founder called "donor fatigue".
And Studio 7 is an online radio platform that’s part of the U.S. state-funded Voice of America. It broadcasts into Zimbabwe from Washington.
