A new strategy for Afghanistan?
Obama will soon unveil his new approach, but what chance does it stand of succeeding?
Last Modified: 29 Nov 2009 08:54 GMT

Barack Obama, the US president, says he is determined to "finish the job" in Afghanistan and that he is considering sending more US troops to the country as part of his new strategy for the war there.

He has spent months pondering his next move - which is set to be unveiled next week - in the eight-year-old war that has grown increasingly unpopular with the American public.

We ask: Can a new military strategy work and are Afghan politics in sufficient order for the US to really succeed?

Inside Story discusses with guests Daoud Sultanzoy, an independent member of the Afghan parliament, Michael Cohen, a senior research fellow at the New America Foundation, and Caroline Wadhams, a national security policy anlyst at the Centre for American Progress.

This episode of Inside Story aired from Wednesday, November 25, 2009.
