Turkey-Israel ties being tested
What will it take to heal the worsening relations between these one-time allies?
Last Modified: 24 Nov 2009 09:52 GMT

Israel's relationship with Turkey seems increasingly confused. This week, Benjamin Ben Eliezer, Israel's trade minister, is visiting Ankara and Istanbul in the hope of thawing frosty ties between the two nations.

At the same time Avigdor Lieberman, Israel's foreign minister, is implying that relations may be getting worse.

So, just what is behind this confusing message? And what will it take to heal the worsening relations between these one-time allies?

Inside Story, with presenter Jane Dutton, discusses with guests Samir al-Taqi, the director of the Orient Centre for International Studies, Gengiz Aktar, a columnist with Turkish daily news, and Efraim Inbar, a politics professor at Bar-Ilan University and the director of Begin-Sadat Centre For Strategic Studies (BESA).

This episode of Inside Story aired on Monday, November 23, 2009.
