Collateral damage?
Rights group says Israeli spy drones killed Palestinian civilians during Gaza war.
Last Modified: 30 Jun 2009 18:53 GMT

Accidental or intentional, innocent Palestinian civilians were killed by Israeli spy drones, according to a recent report by Human Rights Watch (HRW).

They said that they were targetting Hamas fighters but many of those killed were civilians.

According to this recent report, despite having advanced surveillance equipment, drone operators "failed to exercise proper caution as required by the laws of war" in verifying the idenitity of their targets.

Inside Story, with presenter Nick Clark, discusses the findings of the HRW report with Mark Regev, an Israeli government spokesperson, Bill Van Esveld, a senior HRW researcher for the Middle East and North Africa, and Mustafa Al-Barghouti, the head of the Palestinian national initiative.

This episode of Inside Story can be seen from Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at the following times GMT: Tuesday: 1730, 2230; Wednesday: 0430, 1030.
