Kadima, Israel's largest political party, has a new leader: Tzipi Livni, who could go on to be the country's next prime minister.

Ehud Olmert, the party's former leader, announced plans to
resign in July amidst allegations of corruption. The prime minister has had a difficult run.

Livni, the current foreign minister, is a centrist, politically speaking.

In her nine-year political career she has remained clear of corruption allegations and has been seen as pivotal in the peace process with the Palestinians.

The main challenge for the new Kadima Party leader will be to stitch together a coalition government. If she succeeds, she could be sworn in as early as the weekend.

But forming the coalition could also take months.

Inside Story, with presenter Hashem Ahelbarra, discusses.
