The future of Pakistan Peoples' Party, (PPP) and the Pakistani Muslim League (PML-N) coalition is at stake after both sides failed to hammer out a deal on the restoration of judges fired by Pervez Musharraf, the Pakistani president, back in November, 2007.

The two sides agree that these judges must be reinstated, but are at odds on exactly how to do it.

Nawaz Sharif's PML-N party wants the restoration to be through a parliamentary resolution while  Asif Zardari, the PPP co-chairman, says it should be through a package of constitutional reforms.

So could the two partners reach a common ground? And if not, will their coalition fall apart? And how might Musharraf benefit from his foes' disagreements?

Inside Story, with presenter Imran Garda, discusses.
