Palestinians cross into Egypt from the destroyed
section of the Rafah crossing
Thousands of Palestinians have crossed into Egypt through the collapsed Rafah border for a second day in order to buy essential supplies made scarce by Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip.

Tensions are rising as Matan Vilnai, the Israeli deputy defence minister, said Israel gradually wants to relinquish responsibility for Gaza, now that the territory's border with Egypt had been blown open.

Egypt has angrily rejected the suggestion and said it would not change border arrangements.

Inside story asks what the solutions are for Israel and Egypt regarding the Rafah crossing and who bears responsibility for the latest situation.
