Hashim Thaci, the PDK leader, has claimed
election victory [AFP]
Hashim Thaci, the leader of Kosovo's opposition Democratic Party (PDK) leader and former guerrilla leader, has claimed victory in Kosovo's parliamentary elections and promised to declare independence from Serbia after December 10.

He said after casting his own ballot: "These elections are not about Kosovo's status.

"We will declare independence immediately after December 10."

With the province on knife-edge, all eyes are on this date.

Is Kosovo heading for fresh trouble?

And what role is the international community playing as Russia threatens to veto any resolutions that grant Kosovo full independence.
