Do demonstrations urging an end to the Darfur crisis help raise awareness?

More than 200,000 people have died in fighting

Rallies and demonstrations were held in a number of countries to urge world leaders and international community to put an end to the crisis in Darfur.

But some people think these rallies don’t serve the cause of the Darfurians.

Others claim at least they draw the world’s attention to what’s going on in this region.

So, have these campaigns served any purpose at all, or are they just a chance for world celebrities to promote themselves?
