It’s already weak, but now the Palestinian unity government is being rocked by the resignation of interior minister Hani Al-Qawasmi.
A lot of hope was put into Qawasmi’s appointment. His post had been a subject of lengthy negotiations and a major factor in forming the current government. Qawasmi’s decision to quit casts new doubt on whether power-sharing between Hamas and Fatah can continue, especially as this resignation comes amid renewed factional fighting.
