Israel withdrew from Sinai Peninsula 25 years ago
Twenty-five years ago, Israel withdrew from Sinai Peninsula in a peace deal with Egypt.

Ever since, the Egyptian government has tried to make Sinai a destination for both Egyptians and foreigners.

It redirected waters from the Nile to encourage agriculture and settlement. It built a string of resorts extending from the north to the south.

Many projects were counted as major successes. But in the last few years, a series of bombings raised questions of local discontent – especially among the Bedouins.

Has Egypt failed the Sinai in any way? And what lies ahead?
