There is no such thing as Germany imposing austerity measures.
Marcel Fratzscher is the president of the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin). He is also a professor of macroeconomics and finance at Humboldt-University Berlin.
Previously, Fratzscher was the head of international policy analysis at the European Central Bank. He has also been associated with the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank.
Fratzcher is widely published on matters related to monetary policy, development, institutions and financial crises, international finance and macroeconomics.
Some of his recent research has centered upon sovereign risk and contagion during the European sovereign debt crisis.
He joined Judy Dempsey and Ulrike Guerot at a panel discussion in Berlin and said that Germans, who are the most Europhile of all Europeans, are also going through an economic crisis.
