It has been well-documented how so many of our electronic gadgets are manufactured in China these days.

Just 20 years ago most Vietnamese earned their living from farming their land. But now manufacturing has taken over agriculture. And where tea once grew, now smart phones roll out by the millions.

With a plentiful workforce, the government opened its doors to high-tech companies looking to bring them from China where workers' average salary is three times that of Vietnam.

Al Jazeera's Scott Heidler reports from Hanoi which is emerging as an alternative to Beijing.
