Kidney patients face costly dialysis treatments and waits of up to 10 years for a suitable donor. Some desperate patients resort to the black market and pay tens of thousands of dollars for illegal kidney transplants overseas.
But now the Singapore government is considering a radical plan to legalise kidney sales, in a bid to provide a safe medical environment for the donor and kidney patient.
