What’s the actual human cost of Syria’s war?

Half a million people have died and 12 million have been displaced during the 10 years of fighting in Syria’s war.

A harsh winter and the coronavirus pandemic are adding to the death toll and the misery of those who are alive.

It started as a peaceful protest but the war in Syria is now heading into its 11th year and there is no end in sight.

The country’s been torn into rival areas controlled by different groups, backed by regional or international players.

And it is now facing a surge in COVID-19 cases, an economic crisis and new US sanctions targeting the government of President Bashar al-Assad.
