Moun­taineers from around the world have gath­ered in Nepal for the spring climb­ing sea­son. Near­ly 300 peo­ple have died at­tempt­ing to climb Ever­est, but the moun­tain con­tin­ues to draw climbers

In the moun­tain vil­lages of Nepal, farm­ing com­mu­ni­ties are fac­ing acute wa­ter short­ages. Nat­ur­al springs and aquifers are dry­ing up, but some women are build­ing ar­ti­fi­cial ponds or ‘recharge basins’ to col­lect rain­wa­ter and re­fill lo­cal aquifers.
