Al Jazeera magazine cover - Europe''s lost generation

From recession-hit Greece, to protest-heavy Spain, to Germany – the eye of the economic storm, the June issue of the Al Jazeera English digital magazine profiles a continent in crisis.

Europe has become the economic fault line of the world; a major financial crisis has in recent years unsettled the previously thriving region. Since 2008, prices have risen, job prospects have decreased, protest movements have sprung up en masse, and extremist ideologies have found a space in which to thrive.

But as large swathes of young Europeans finds themselves ‘lost’ in the quagmire of recession, austerity and depression, there are also pockets of calm, and sectors that have managed to turn the tide around.

In this edition of our award-winning monthly magazine, we present the story of contemporary Europe, from the beginnings of the financial crisis, to the plight of those who have been hit the hardest; from a look at the main culprits, to the stories of those who are trying to bring about change.
