Maestro's Daughters: A musical legacy

Ustad Afzalur Rahman is one of Bangladesh's most famous classical musicians
Ustad was blind but as a young boy music gave him hope; redefining his life and giving it purpose
When he taught his wife and his two visually impaired daughters how to play, it gave their family a new identity
They called themselves the Inner Eyes Family Orchestra
Ustad Afzalur Rahman's skills as a sarod player are legendary, but in December 2009 he passed away
The maestro's daughters have both inherited their father's amazing talent
Ustad's daughters now bear the responsibility of carrying on their father's legacy
The sisters are in their 30s and uneducated and their mother desperately worries for their future
The family had arranged a tribute concert for the maestro, before which they practised three times a day
Without their father, the young women have to make it on their own in a country that is still largely patriarchal
Like their father the two sisters teach blind boys twice a week, but more than anything else, they want to start a school that will accept blind girls as well
Ruba and Tungtang are in the process of submitting all the papers for their school and hope to register as an official NGO soon
