Israeli official emphasises negotiations

Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president, has handed over a historic request to the United Nations, requesting the admission of he state of Palestine as a full member.

Speaking to Al Jazeera, Danny Ayalon, Israel's deputy foreign minister, says that the declaration of a state cannot be a unilateral one, and calls on the Palestinians to come back to the negotiating table.
