A Moroccan judge has appeared in court accused of torturing his 11-year-old maid.

The trial of Khaled Alchuti has now been adjourned until Saturday.

Meanwhile, Alchuti's wife has been sentenced to three and a half years in jail, a punishment that Moroccan human rights groups say is far too lenient for the crime.

Al Jazeera's Stephanie Dekker reports.
