For the first time since his capture three years ago, footage of the Israeli soldier, Gilad Shalit, has been handed over to his family and the Israeli authorities.
The two-minute video shows 23-year-old Shalit apparently healthy and speaking to the camera.
The video recording was made in exchange for the release of 20 Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails - part of a deal brokered by Egyptian and German mediators.
While both Palestinian and Israeli leaders have viewed this confidence-building measure favorably, no one is willing to come out and say that a final prisoner exchange deal is imminent.
