Palestinian rivals reach agreement
Fatah and Hamas sign Yemeni-backed reconciliation initiative to reopen dialogue.
Last Modified: 23 Mar 2008 13:00 GMT
Hamas and Fatah have signed a Yemeni-sponsored reconciliation deal to re-open dialogue, Abu Bakr al-Qurbi, Yemen's foreign minister, says.

PLO and Hamas representative reached the agreement in the Yemeni capital Sanaa on Sunday after negotiations appeared close to collapse.
The factions had agreed the previous day to continue reconciliation talks after a personal plea by Ali Abdullah Saleh to end the crisis that erupted after Hamas seized Gaza in June last year.
While the two delegations had earlier accepted the initiative as a blueprint for peace, they disagreed on practicalities that would restore control of the Palestinian Authority (PA) over the Gaza Strip.
