Russia mulls nuclear weapons to blast meteors

Scientists propose nuclear power to defend Earth from meteors after space rock crashed last month.

Russian scientists have proposed a plan to use nuclear weapons to prevent meteorites from hitting the Earth.

The idea was prompted by a space rock shattering over the Ural Mountains last month, which led to 1,500 people being injured and caused millions of dollars in damage.

Al Jazeera's Robin Forestier-Walker reports from Moscow.
