Many Swedes have reacted with disappointment and disgust after the anti-immigration Sweden Democrats won seats in parliament for the first time. Others say the country has long needed a party which "dares to speak out" about sensitive integration issues.

In a day, an anti-racism campaign by the daily Aftonbladet got more than 100,000 fans on Facebook.

More than 6,000 people gathered in central Stockholm on Monday evening to ptotest against the Sweden Democrats.

Al Jazeera had a look on the micro-blogging website Twitter to see what Swedes were saying.

JuliaNylen: I'm a shamed to say I'm Swedish today... Sweden Democrats in parliament... Awful!

BirgitBidder: ...it's time to take their movement seriously. Tonight at 6pm I will be demonstrating against the Sweden Democrats at Plattan.

yasmineriksson: Today is a dark day! Sweden Democrats in parliament! Olof Palme [slain prime minister] is rolling in his grave!

amintou: Wondering how many took the wrong ballot because they didn't get the difference between Sweden Democrats and Social Democrats?

idealirony: Think positively. Just over 94% of those voting did not want the Sweden Democrats in parliament.

T0tt3: Finally a party in parliament which dares to highlight the problem with Sweden's immigration policies. The Sweden Democrats are needed. I'm NOT a racist..

karinericson: If you refuse to work with the Sweden Democrats you have to refute them. Otherwise they'll get even more votes from annoyed voters in the next election.

malmo1988: We have to throw the Sweden Democrats out of parliament NOW!

camillaivinger: Who is so stupid that they vote for the Sweden Democrats. Who wants to live in a racist society? Not me. Sweden made a big misstake../.

BrainStew_carro: What a depressing day. Wretched weather and the Sweden Democrats in parliament. I just want to hide.

BimboBoy: Did you vote for the Sweden Democrats? Do us both a favour and delete me as your Facebook friend.

ay_:  Just woke up and thought everything was a dream, but NO, Sweden Democrats still got in to the parliament, that sucks.. feeling embarrassed

ceciliawse: Sweden Democrats got 11% in the local elections where I live. I'm mourning and I'm ashamed, wondering what I can do to change it.

landgrens: Maybe today we'll see the first T-shirt with Sweden Democrats prints. Maybe bomber jackets with SD pins...
