At least 18 people have been killed at a music festival in western Germany.

A stampede broke out in a tunnel leading to the "Love Parade" festival on Saturday after authorities tried to stop people from entering the over-crowded area.

About 1.4 million people were attending the event in the town of Duisburg near the city of Dusseldorf when the tragedy occurred.
