Brown: Economy like Rooney's ankle

Britsh PM says economy needs time to recover before jumping off the treatment table.

    Gordon Brown, the British prime minister, is widely expected to call a general election this week - against a backdrop of huge government debt.

    Comparing the economy to the foot injury of Wayne Rooney, the England football striker, Brown said on Monday that it needed time to recover before jumping off the treatment table.
