Exactly one week after the conflict began, Russia remains in control of the South Ossetian capital, Tskhinvali.

Moscow says fighting killed up to 2,000 people there; many of them Russian citizens.

The Russian military took journalists on a tightly controlled tour of Tskhinvali.

Al Jazeera’s Nazanine Moshiri was among them.
